How do I install WordPress using Softaculous?
First, you will want to log into the cPanel for your account. You can usually access that by going to http://[yourdomain.com]/cpanel.
Softaculous is a program that will help you to install an instance of Wordpress on your hosting plan. Once in Softaculous you should see Wordpress near the top as it is a very popular installation. If you do not see it, simply search for it on the right in the search bar. After you find Wordpress, select the ‘Install’ button.
Once selecting Install, Softaculous will have some quick questions that need to be answered before the installation will complete.
We’ll walk through each of these steps individually.
This first question deals with an SSL certificate. If you have an SSL already installed on your site, then you can change this to https://. In most cases, leaving it as http:// is perfectly fine.
This question will apply only if you are hosting multiple domain names on your account. Simply select which domain you are installing Wordpress on from the drop down menu.
This step is very important. It tells Softaculous if you want your Wordpress installation installed within a subdirectory of your chosen domain, or on the domain itself. If you want to be able to go to http://mydomain.com and see the installation, leave the field empty. By default it will have a ‘wp’ within it. Just remove that. If you want it in a subdirectory, say which directory you would like it in and Softaculous will create that directory for you within the document root of your domain.
You can name your database if you desire here. This isn’t required but will help to distinguish the databases apart if you plan to have many.
This is similar to the Database Name question. You can change this if you desire, but it is not required.
These next questions will give your site a Title (Site Name), and a smaller subtitle (Site Description). This can be changed after the installation is installed as well. Only enable Multisite if you know that you need it. This is not common.
Here is where you will set up your Admin account. You can leave the username as Admin, although we suggest you change it something meaningful to you. Please create a secure password to help keep your installation from being compromised. And finally, enter in your email address that your installation will use to contact you for installation administration.
Select your language and then hit install. Softaculous will then go and install Wordpress for you.
The final screen after the installation successfully completed will have your Administrative URL where you will use your credentials you just created to log in to the Wordpress Dashboard.
Updating WordPress with Softaculous:\
NOTE: This does not update plug-ins, themes or other modifications you may have made to your application. You should update those manually.
